Students in Para, a village in the Moruca sub-district of Region One, will have improved access to education following the handover of a new bus to the community.

The vehicle, funded through the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, was presented by Housing Minister Collin Croal on behalf of the Government of Guyana during a community engagement event. The initiative responds to a request from local residents.

Minister Croal urged the community to take care of the bus, saying it is a shared responsibility. “We all have a responsibility to ensure that we care for the assets that are in our responsibility and this is a community responsibility,” he said.

Regional Vice-Chairman Paul Pierre said the regional administration is focused on streamlined development over the next five years and is actively preparing Budget 2026 proposals to support this goal.

Waramuri Secondary School Head Teacher Monette Williams welcomed the new bus, noting it would ease transportation challenges for students across all levels, from nursery to secondary school. “Having the bus now, the children will be in a much better condition so that they can travel there and go to school every day,” she said.

Senior Councillor Kester Fredericks added that the vehicle would provide relief during unpredictable weather, improving student access to schooling.

The community engagement also allowed residents to raise local concerns, which Minister Croal said would be followed up by the relevant authorities.
