The sounds of drums and the rhythm of traditional dance filled the air at the National Park last night as Guyana officially unveiled this year’s Amerindian Heritage Village of Nappi in Region Nine. The colourful event marked the start of Amerindian Heritage Month 2025, showcasing cultural performances, craft displays, Indigenous cuisine, and storytelling that celebrated the richness of Guyana’s first peoples.
Delivering the feature address, Amerindian Affairs Minister welcomed the gathering with pride, noting that the celebration reflects the heart of the nation’s identity.
“It is with immense pride… we are united in celebration of not only the rich tapestry of Amerindian heritage that lies at the core of our national identity,” she said.
The minister also congratulated President Dr. Irfaan Ali on his second term in office, pointing out that Indigenous communities have long recognised his commitment to their development. She recalled the words of a youth from Region Eight who predicted that September first would be a “heritage victory,” calling it a fitting symbol of the strength and optimism within Amerindian communities.
She further emphasised the importance of preserving traditions for future generations. “Let us work hand in hand to ensure that our stories, languages, and vibrant traditions of our people continue to be celebrated, respected, and cherished in the heart of this society, Guyana,” the minister declared.
As Nappi hosts this year’s Heritage Village, the celebration carries deep symbolism—representing resilience, continuity, and unity. Throughout September, communities nationwide will join in honouring Amerindian contributions through music, art, storytelling, and food—keeping Indigenous traditions alive while celebrating their central place in Guyana’s national story.
