One day after Guyanese went to the polls, residents are reflecting on the atmosphere at polling stations and stressing the importance of maintaining peace in the days ahead.
While many described the process as orderly and calm, citizens are renewing calls for unity, patience, and respect as the official results are awaited.
Ignite News spoke with residents earlier today, as they shared their experiences and appealed for the country to remain peaceful during this critical time.
Resident Lionel Lim said he is optimistic that order will prevail, adding that whichever party wins, the country must move forward.
“Cost of living– that is a big issue. I hope that whoever go in there, they address it- right away,” he said.
Another resident, Ruth, shared that she believes the atmosphere remains tense after the elections.
“I just hope that there isn’t any chaos and everybody just come together as one as they should. I think everybody should stay calm,” she said.
As Guyana awaits the official declaration of results, the message from citizens is clear — patience, calm, and unity are needed now more than ever.
Additionally, resident Kevin said he hasn’t noticed much change in the atmosphere but noted that he is anticipating the results of the elections.
“How everything go and how everything was, I would say this was a smooth year compared to previous elections. But for today alone, I see certain roads close off so we just got to watch and see,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Claremont Brummell shared that he thinks the process has been good so far.
“As you can see there isn’t any hiccups or anything, so I just glad that the process went smooth and everything is back to normal. I do hope that persons just accept the results and things just continue to be normal again and we just continue doing what we have to do,” he said.
While the votes have been cast, the call is for every citizen to play their part in ensuring the nation remains strong throughout this democratic process.
