New marina to position Bartica as yachting and boating hub

Bartica’s waterfront is poised for a new wave of transformation, with President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali on Sunday announcing plans for a second phase of development that includes a state-of-the-art tourism marina.

The facility will position Region Seven as a premier yachting and boating hub in Guyana’s tourism industry. Speaking at the commissioning of the new stelling at Bartica, Ali said the marina would make the town a “yachting and boating stage for the region,” tapping into the growing market and offering new recreational and investment opportunities.

“As the economy grows, more and more people will be interested in boating as part of our tourism product. There is no better location than Region Seven to have those facilities,” he said.

The marina will be complemented by a modern tourism terminal aimed at enhancing visitor experiences and attracting hotels and other tourism-related investments. Ali said it would be integrated into a wider transport network, including waterfront upgrades in other regions and the acquisition of new vessels to improve connectivity.

Public Works Minister Bishop Juan Edghill said the plan reflected the government’s commitment to sustainable development, with improved docking, low ramps, and dedicated spaces for speedboats and larger vessels to boost safety and efficiency.

The marina is part of the administration’s broader initiative to develop integrated waterfront facilities nationwide. The $553 million Bartica Stelling is expected to reshape daily life in Region Seven.
