Guyana signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bloomberg Grain on Wednesday, a move aimed at positioning the country as a regional food hub.

The agreement, signed at the Ministry of Agriculture, covers collaboration on marketing and branding for a regional food hub under construction at Yarrowkabra, along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

The partnership is expected to boost exports, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve access to markets across the Caribbean and the Americas.

Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha said the deal is a key step toward national food security goals.

“What we are about to do this morning is sign an agreement with an internationally recognised company—one that brings global expertise to Guyana. This partnership is a testimony to the government’s commitment to food security and improving lives,” Mustapha said.

Philip Blumerg Chairman of Blumberg Grain, said the company plans to invest in agri-processing in Guyana.

“We are prepared to invest in processing Guyanese agricultural products. That means more value for farmers and easier access to export markets.”

Blumberg Grain also plans to set up a manufacturing plant in Guyana for high-tech shade houses, which officials say could help drive agri-tech development and job creation.

The MoU reflects rising international interest in Guyana’s agriculture sector and supports the country’s role in advancing the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) food security agenda.
