Guyana’s Under-23 3×3 basketball team put up a spirited fight but narrowly lost 18-14 to the host nation in an intense matchup at the ongoing high-performance training camp in Paraguay.

Facing tough international opposition as part of preparations for the Junior Pan American Games, the Guyanese quartet showcased grit and potential, led by standout players such as Stephen George and Anish Ramlall.

The loss marked the third consecutive defeat for the Guyanese squad, but Coach Willon Cameron praised the team’s effort.

“First of all, I am just grateful for the experience, the young guys are appreciative of the opportunity that was presented to them by the federation, but I am satisfied with the overall cam and with the overall effort from the guys. We had three losses, but the guys came out and played hard,” Cameron noted.

Additionally, Cameron highlighted that the camp and tournament broadened his knowledge of the sport, and recommendations will be made to improve the 3-on-3 format once the team arrives home.

“I am very proud of the team. You know we have learned a lot. We have earned a lot, about 3 on 3 and how it ought to be played. I learned a lot about tactics and how to go about setting up and making up a team. So, I will be making some recommendations to the Federation so that we can move forward with this format,” Cameron mentioned.

The camp concluded earlier today in Paraguay, and the team is expected to return to Guyana over the weekend.
