The High Court Registrar took the witness stand on Wednesday as the election fraud case continued at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where key electoral documents central to the case were again brought into focus.
Registrar Sueanna Lovell appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty and detailed her role as custodian of Statements of Poll (SOPs) and Statements of Recount (SORs), which were presented to the court in sealed cardboard boxes.
The court heard that the transfer of the electoral materials from the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) was ordered by then Acting Chief Justice Roxanne George-Wiltshire, who directed that the documents be placed under the secure custody of the High Court Registrar for evidentiary purposes.
Lovell testified that the materials were transported to the High Court in the presence of GECOM Chairperson Claudette Singh and then Chief Elections Officer Keith Lowenfield, as part of arrangements to preserve the records for the ongoing proceedings.
The SOPs were later tendered in court without objection from the defence and shown to the defendants, who appeared virtually.
Among those charged are former Chief Elections Officer Keith Lowenfield, former Deputy Chief Elections Officer Roxanne Myers, PNCR executive Volda Lawrence, PNCR member Carol Smith-Joseph, and former GECOM staff members Enrique Livan, Sheffern February, Denise Babb-Cummings, and Michelle Miller.
All have pleaded not guilty and are on bail. Prosecutors allege the group played a “critical role” in inflating votes for the APNU+AFC coalition while reducing votes for the PPP/C.
