A 53-year-old man died on Friday evening after being run over by a paddy truck while lying on Fyrish Public Road in Corentyne, Berbice, police said.
The victim, identified as Mark Songster of Fyrish Road, was struck around 20:10 hrs by the truck (GYY 5720) owned by a 43-year-old woman from Black Bush Polder and driven by a 43-year-old man from the same address.
Police said the vehicle, a paddy truck, was travelling west along the southern lane at a normal rate of speed when it encountered the man lying on the roadway and ran over him.
Songster was taken to Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver was taken into custody, and a breathalyser test recorded two readings of 11 micrograms of alcohol in his breath, police said.
The vehicle has been lodged for inspection, and investigations are continuing.
