More than 3,000 Pathfinders and Master Guides from across the Caribbean gathered on Tuesday at the Seventh-day Adventist Caribbean Union Conference Camporee at the Loo Creek campsite along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
Held under the theme “Greatness 2: Rise of an Empire,” the five-day event aims to nurture spiritual growth, adventure, and fellowship among young participants.
President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali delivered the opening address, highlighting the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) movement’s role in shaping the lives of young people across the region. “Beyond its religious work, the contribution of the Adventist community has extended to education, health, youth development, and service,” he said, noting the church’s efforts to uplift individuals and families, promote values, and encourage positive lifestyles.
Dr. Ali described gatherings such as the camporee as opportunities to inspire the next generation of leaders to grow, serve, and contribute positively to their communities.
President of the Caribbean Union Conference, Dr. Kern Tobias, praised Guyana for its contribution to the SDA movement and its own economic, academic, and spiritual development. He said Guyana is an ideal host due to its scenic landscape, strong economy, and the country’s large SDA membership and active youth participation.
Over the course of the camporee, participants will engage in activities inspired by the journey of King David, calling on youth to embrace greatness through Christ.
