Sod turned for $40M Eccles/Ramsburg NDC office

The sod-turning exercise today

Local Government and Regional Development Minister Priya Manickchand on Tuesday turned the sod for a new $40 million office for the Eccles/Ramsburg Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) on the East Bank of Demerara, as the government moves to strengthen local governance and improve service delivery.

The facility, which is expected to be completed within four months, will replace a dilapidated structure that had hindered the council’s operations. The new building is designed to provide a safer, more efficient and accessible environment for staff and residents.

Manickchand said the project reflects the government’s commitment to improving local government systems and equipping communities with the resources needed to function effectively.

The Eccles/Ramsburg NDC serves a growing population along the East Bank corridor, and the new office is expected to enhance administrative capacity and community engagement.

The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development has been rolling out similar initiatives aimed at modernising infrastructure and strengthening governance at the community level across Guyana.
