US Ambassador praises government, says oil funds being used for citizen development

U.S. Ambassador Nicole Theriot

US Ambassador Nicole Theriot has praised the administration of President Irfaan Ali for what she described as a step in the right direction in governing Guyana’s multi-billion-dollar oil economy.
Speaking on the Sources programme, Theriot highlighted the government’s strategic investment in key projects aimed at promoting citizen development.
“I honestly believe that the current leadership of this country has the best interest of the Guyanese people’s at heart,” the Ambassador said. She noted that development is taking place nationwide, with oil funds being spent on credible infrastructure benefiting citizens.
She added that the government is “using the oil revenue they are receiving now… to create critical infrastructure that will benefit all Guyanese.”
Theriot acknowledged concerns about the immediate impact of large-scale infrastructure projects but said they present significant opportunities for personal advancement. She explained that improved infrastructure will enable citizens to move freely and access critical services, adding: “everything is moving in the right direction.”
The Ambassador also reaffirmed US support for the administration, expressing willingness to collaborate with the Guyana government to achieve mutual benefits and strengthen long-term partnerships.
