Hinterland residents who fear they will not receive the government’s $100,000 cash grant because they do not have a bank account or cannot access the online registration portal need not worry.

Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, announced on Thursday evening that the government will be “setting up teams to support residents in hinterland communities to get registered.”

During his interview with the National Communications Network (NCN) on Thursday, Minister Singh emphasised that the absence of a bank account will not be a barrier to receiving the grant, a promise made by President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali.

Teams have already been deployed to Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo). Centres will also be established along the coastal regions, staffed with technical personnel to assist citizens with registering for the grant.
“Even if you’re not able to register yourself because you encounter a problem, centres will be established to assist you,” the senior minister affirmed.

The government allocated $60 billion in the 2026 budget to ensure that all Guyanese aged 18 years and older receive the cash transfer. Of this amount, $5 billion will be distributed to public servants, including teachers and members of the joint services. (DPI)
