As the Government moves into the second phase of distribution of the National $100,000 Cash Grant, as promised by President Irfaan Ali, Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, has announced that the online portal for eligible Guyanese to self-register for the National Cash Grant went live today. The portal is designed to facilitate registration for eligible citizens across the country and can be accessed at https://cashgrant.gov.gy.
The Minister explained that citizens can self-register using the portal and urged everyone to ensure they have a bank account in their name at a local commercial bank, as this is the fastest and most efficient way to receive the cash grant. Eligible citizens can complete the registration and verification process from home, after which the grant will be disbursed directly into their bank accounts.
Dr Singh also emphasised that government personnel have been deployed to provide support in hinterland communities, and a call centre is available during working hours to assist citizens experiencing difficulties.
The Minister stated that the Government is committed to ensuring a smooth cash grant distribution process so that each eligible Guyanese citizen receives their grant. Last Friday, 48,858 central government employees, including public servants, teachers, and members of the Disciplined Services, received the cash grant. This represents nearly $5 billion in additional disposable income for these public servants.
Unlike the 2024 National Cash Grant, the current disbursement will be conducted entirely through the banking system, in line with President Ali’s digitisation agenda and previous encouragement for citizens to open bank accounts.
Eligibility Requirements for the National $100,000 Cash Grant:
• Must be a Guyanese citizen aged 18 years or older as of 28 February 2026.
• Must possess a valid National Identification Card, Digital Identity Card, or Guyana Passport.
• Registrants must have a bank account in their name at a local commercial bank.
• Must be physically present in Guyana to register.
A national help desk has been established to assist citizens and can be contacted on 501-5085 or 503-2977 during working hours. Active bank accounts allow the Government to transfer grants swiftly, securely, and efficiently, as demonstrated in last week’s disbursements to central government employees.
Prior to the rollout of this grant, the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the Central Bank, worked with financial institutions to simplify the process of opening bank accounts, including online registration.
The following commercial banks currently facilitate online account opening:
• Demerara Bank Limited – https://demerarabank.com/individual-application/
• Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited – https://gbtibank.com/apply-for-an-account/
• Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited – https://www.republicguyana.com/republiconboard
• Scotiabank Guyana Incorporated – https://apply.online.scotiabank.com/product/decision-prompt?lang=en&country=GY&product=31&currency=GYD
In its 2025 Manifesto, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Government pledged to promote financial inclusion and make financing more accessible to Guyanese businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as households. The objective is to foster a more inclusive financial system, empowering citizens to access financial services and participate in saving and investment opportunities across the country.
In late 2024, the PPP/C Government implemented the first $100,000 National Cash Grant for every Guyanese citizen aged 18 and older, transferring more than $60 billion in disposable income to over 600,000 citizens. The second $100,000 National Cash Grant this year will again benefit all citizens aged 18 and older, with a total of over $60 billion expected to be disbursed. This initiative represents the third major cash grant programme rolled out by the PPP/C Government, following the first National Cash Grant of $25,000 per household in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
