A 56-year-old man was fatally stabbed on Tuesday evening at Leopold and Cross Streets, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, police said.
Dead is Michael Dazzell, who had no fixed place of abode.
Police in Regional Division 4 ‘A’ said the incident occurred around 19:30 hrs on March 17, and is being treated as an alleged murder.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was riding along Cross Street on a bicycle when an altercation reportedly broke out between him and Dazzell, who was standing in an alleyway on the eastern side of the road.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a pair of scissors and stabbed the victim multiple times about his body.
The injured man ran through the alleyway and collapsed a short distance away, while the suspect fled south along Cross Street on the bicycle.
Emergency Medical Technicians responded, and Dazzell was pronounced dead by a doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Police said a three-quarter pants with suspected blood stains and a pair of scissors believed to be linked to the incident were recovered from a residence connected to the suspect. A black pedal cycle was also found at the location.
Investigators have identified CCTV cameras in the area which will be reviewed as part of the probe.
The body is at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The suspect remains at large as investigations continue.
