Dexterity Racing & Auto Expo set for Leonora Stadium

A long-dormant form of motorsport, dexterity racing, will return next month when the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) hosts the Dexterity Racing & Auto Expo 2026.

The event is scheduled for April 11 at the Leonora Stadium Tarmac, starting at 1600 local time, and is open to all interested participants, with registration details to be released shortly.

Dexterity racing tests driver control and precision on a pre-designed course rather than speed or engine power.
GMR&SC Executive Azaad Hassan said the decision to revive the format was driven in part by road safety considerations and the need to re-engage motorsport fans after recent disruptions.

“It’s been quite some time since we have hosted a dexterity event, and it’s generally something that is seen as fun and easier to host than most other events. At this point, we’ve had to postpone two events because of rehabilitation works on venues, so this is also to try and address the shortfall in events for motorsport fans,” Hassan said.

He added that the initiative also aims to improve driver awareness and skill.
“Secondly, we [the executive] sat and had a discussion regarding the state of our roadways and how skilled motorists are and in keeping with our mandate as a motorsport club, we thought it fitting to host an event that gives drivers a chance to understand their vehicles better; that’s what dexterity is; it isn’t about power, it is about control,” he said.

The programme will include dexterity challenges, motorcycle stunt riding and competitive go-karting. An auto expo will follow the racing segment, aimed at strengthening the local car culture network.
Admission is set at $2,000.
