Guyanese sauce manufacturer UMAMI has entered the Trinidad and Tobago market through a distribution partnership with Massy Distribution, marking a major step in the company’s Caribbean expansion.
Under the agreement, Massy Distribution will supply UMAMI’s range of sauces and condiments to retailers, supermarkets and food service outlets across Trinidad and Tobago, making the brand available there for the first time.
The expansion reflects growing regional trade within CARICOM and the increasing presence of Guyanese manufactured products in regional markets.
President Dr Irfaan Ali, welcomed the development, saying the entry of Guyanese agro-processed products into regional markets shows the impact of government policies aimed at strengthening manufacturing and exports.
Ali said the removal of corporate taxes on agro-processing was designed to encourage investment, expand production capacity and position Guyana as a competitive supplier of value-added food products in the Caribbean.
“Trinidad and Tobago has one of the most dynamic and sophisticated food markets in the Caribbean,” said Director of UMAMI, Chris Persaud. He said partnering with Massy Distribution allows the company to enter the market with a regional distributor that understands Caribbean retail and consumer preferences.
Executive Vice-President for Massy Integrated Retail, Ambikah Mongroo, said the company was pleased to introduce the UMAMI brand to consumers in Trinidad and Tobago.
“Massy Distribution is committed to bringing high-quality Guyanese products to the market, and UMAMI’s range of sauces represents an exciting addition to our portfolio,” she said.
UMAMI produces a range of sauces and condiments using locally sourced ingredients and modern food manufacturing standards. The company said the expansion forms part of its strategy to scale production and grow exports across the Caribbean.
Massy Distribution, part of the Massy Group, supplies international and regional brands to supermarkets, retailers and the hospitality sector throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
Through the partnership, UMAMI products are expected to appear on supermarket shelves across Trinidad and Tobago in the coming months, giving consumers access to a new range of Guyanese-made sauces.
