A video circulating on social media shows a man accused of stabbing a teenage mother in Heatburn Village, East Bank Berbice, appearing injured while being questioned by several men.
The man, identified as 28-year-old Christopher Ali, is seen in the footage with a rope around his neck as individuals demand that he confess to stabbing 15-year-old Tianna Chapman.
During the questioning, one of the men can be heard telling him to “confess why you jook the girl,” while another slaps him across the face and repeats the demand.
Ali denies the accusation in the video, saying the teenager “fell on the knife.”
Chapman was reportedly stabbed 25 times about the body.
He also claims she had already returned home and was “alright” after receiving treatment.
Ali appeared to have injuries in the footage, with his left hand wrapped and his left foot bandaged below the knee.
Police said Ali had been in hiding following the February 24 stabbing of Chapman at Heatburn Village. She was reportedly attacked while visiting a relative in the community.
According to reports, a family member who had briefly left the house to buy food returned to find the teenager slumped in a chair and bleeding from multiple stab wounds. She was taken for medical treatment and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Chapman has since been discharged from hospital but sustained punctured lungs.
Ali later arrived by boat at the New Amsterdam Police Boathouse on Friday evening after reportedly being chopped and injured during an incident on the Berbice River.
Police investigations into the stabbing and the circumstances surrounding Ali’s injuries are ongoing.
