Adanya Glen from North Georgetown claimed her second gold medal at the ongoing 2026 National Schools’ Championships at the National Track and Field Centre in Leonora, continuing her impressive streak on Thursday.
After winning gold in the 1500 metres on Wednesday, Glen showcased her speed again in the girls’ under-20 800 metres, clocking 2:22.59. Alkila Blucher from Christianburg Wismar secured the silver medal in 2:31.41, while Kaymayra Lacon from Richard Ishmael earned bronze with a time of 2:36.57.
The boys’ under-20 800 metres featured a thrilling finish, with Kaidon Persaud of Linden Technical Institute (LTI) breaking the two-minute barrier to claim gold in 1:59.64. Jonathon Bristol from Government Technical Institute (GTI) followed closely behind to take silver in 2:01.54, while Quency Marks finished just behind him in 2:01.68.
In the field events, Duel Europe from St Stanislaus College won gold in the boys’ under-20 long jump, soaring to 6.82 metres, while David Williams from Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary took silver with a jump of 6.79 metres. Nichol Nieuelder rounded out the top three with a leap of 6.30 metres.
Athalia Simmons from Bartica Secondary excelled in the girls’ under-17 discus, winning gold with a throw of 26.86 metres. Jasmin Sultan from New Silver City secured silver with a throw of 21.67 metres, while Jada Sampson from East Ruimveldt Secondary finished third with 21.42 metres.
In other notable results, Mattania Fordyce from President’s College won the boys’ under-20 high jump with a clearance of 1.85 metres, while Kenetha Fraser from Christianburg Wismar dominated the girls’ under-20 long jump with a leap of 5.24 metres.
Orlando Thomas from Maruranau Secondary took the boys’ under-17 800 metres in a time of 2:04.39, while Ayesha Austin claimed victory in the girls’ equivalent event, finishing in 2:36.72.
The championships will culminate with the highly anticipated 200 and 400 metres finals on the final day.
