
A 31-year-old man died early Wednesday morning after the car he was driving collided head-on with a lorry along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway at Loo Creek, police said.
Dead is Keiron Warner of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
Police said the accident occurred at about 06:30 hrs and involved motor car PZZ 943, driven by Warner, and motor lorry GXX 3002, driven by a 50-year-old man of Half Mile, Wismar, Linden.
According to initial investigations, the lorry was proceeding north along the western lane of the highway when the car, travelling south along the eastern lane at an alleged fast rate of speed, suddenly swerved in a south-western direction and collided head-on with the lorry.
Warner became pinned in the vehicle and sustained severe injuries.
Emergency Medical Technicians who arrived at the scene pronounced him dead.
His body has been taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police said a breathalyser test conducted on the lorry driver showed no trace of alcohol. He is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
Investigations are ongoing.
