PAS Cargo Guyana Inc. has launched a commercial off-port customs facility at Rome, East Bank Demerara, becoming the first private company to receive approval from the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) to operate such a site.
The development comes as Guyana’s economy continues rapid expansion, increasing demand for more efficient logistics and trade infrastructure.
The 100 per cent Guyanese-owned company, which has operated in the local shipping sector for more than 14 years, said the new bonded facility is designed to modernise cargo handling and reduce congestion traditionally associated with waterfront transit sheds.
Executive Director Shridat Naraine said the investment aligns with government efforts to encourage greater local participation in the expanding economy.
The facility includes container-height loading docks, vertical racking systems, yard space and 24-hour physical and CCTV security. PAS Cargo said it has also introduced radio-frequency identification (RFID) tracking to allow clients to monitor cargo inventory in real time.
A key feature is the integration of off-site customs operations. With licensed in-house brokerage services and on-site customs officers, the company said commercial clients shipping less-than-container-load (LCL) cargo can complete clearance and delivery at a single location.
The move is expected to reduce processing times and streamline trade procedures.
PAS Cargo said it maintains partnerships with international freight networks WCA and Lognet, connecting Guyana to more than 800 cities across 190 countries.
The company plans to host an official launch event at the Georgetown Marriott on March 25.
