World Trade Centre Georgetown working to help SMEs access international markets

The World Trade Centre Georgetown plans to formally introduce membership and associate arrangements to deepen private sector involvement and boost Guyana’s exports, Executive Director Wesley Kirton said.
Kirton told Ignite News that the initiative reflects the Centre’s evolving role as a hub for trade facilitation, information sharing, and practical business outcomes. “We’ve now decided to formally have members and associates of the World Trade Centre, and so we’d be reaching out to a number of businesses to join us,” he said.
The framework aims to give businesses, particularly micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, direct access to trade development efforts, including training, information, and international networks. “…to become part of the effort to help improve our trading relations globally,” Kirton said.
He emphasised that the programme will be results-driven, focusing on measurable business outcomes rather than dialogue alone. “What we want our activities to do is to focus on results,” he said.
Kirton added that details on membership and associate opportunities will be released publicly soon, noting the move aligns with the Centre’s mission to position Guyanese businesses to compete effectively in both traditional and non-traditional international markets.
