Floypay, a new payment facilitation service aimed at expanding access to modern card payment solutions for businesses, was launched on Friday through a partnership between Demerara Bank Limited and Flowcatalyst Technology and Consulting Inc..

The service is designed to address persistent challenges faced by merchants, particularly micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, in accessing affordable and reliable card acceptance solutions. Market data has pointed to high fees, limited competition and restricted access to transaction data and business insights in the local payments landscape.
Under the Visa and Mastercard payment facilitator (PayFac) model, Demerara Bank enables Flowcatalyst to provide card acceptance services in Guyana. Merchants can begin accepting card payments without changing their existing banking relationships, while benefiting from competitive fees, enhanced customer support and improved reporting tools.
The Floypay platform includes wireless Android point-of-sale terminals with no upfront hardware cost, merchant management software, and access to a mobile application and online portal. Businesses can view transactions in real time, manage refunds and chargebacks, and access analytical dashboards tracking sales trends and performance.
By promoting electronic payments and reducing reliance on cash, the partners said the initiative would enhance transaction security, operational efficiency and customer convenience, while advancing financial inclusion.
At the launch event, representatives of Visa International said digital payments play a central role in fostering secure and sustainable economic growth, noting that partnerships with local banks help expand acceptance and build trust among merchants and consumers.
The companies said the collaboration reflects Demerara Bank’s broader strategy to support digital payments and strengthen Guyana’s evolving financial ecosystem.
