Member of Parliament for the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), James Bond, has urged the country’s young people to turn to the incumbent administration, stressing the government’s delivery of numerous benefits and programmes tailored to their development.
Speaking at the budget debates on Thursday, Bond highlighted that the ministers of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports are keen on ensuring the advancement of the country’s younger population.
“Run to the PPP/C young people of this country. Honourable Steven Jacobs and Honourable Minister (Charles) Ramson, I’ve had a chance to work with them, we went to visit grounds, we went to visit stadiums, this is not to benefit buttons; this is to benefit the young people of this country,” Bond stated.
He pointed to programmes such as the Tiger Bay shade house project, which was initiated by His Excellency President Dr. Irfaan Ali, the development of the Palmyra Stadium in Berbice, and the roll-out of a training programme for Haslington youths as a few of the current initiatives addressing the concerns of young people, and urged that these be taken advantage of.
He said that the Haslington meeting saw hundreds of young people being accommodated with programmes under the Board of Industrial Training while receiving a stipend.
“…they give you a stipend, they give you a jersey and they give you transport. Young people take advantage of this.”
In making the point, Bond said that he too has benefitted under the PPP/C after being awarded a scholarship to study law.
The former A Partnership for National Unity member urged young people to be wary of claims that Budget 2026 has nothing in store for them, insisting that they turn to the PPP/C to support their ongoing development.
