Five local athletes qualify for Junior CARIFTA Games

Track and field standouts Angel Jeffrey, Tesianna Harris, Onesi Dunn, Tishawn Easton, and CARIFTA medallist Javon Roberts have shattered records and secured spots on the national CARIFTA Games team.
Their performances came at the Athletics Association of Guyana’s first CARIFTA trials meet, held last weekend at the National Track and Field Centre.

Roberts showcased his extraordinary talent in the Boys’ Under-20 800m, blazing across the finish line in a remarkable 1:54.07 to comfortably surpass the qualifying standard of 1:55.00. Meanwhile, Dunn powered through the Boys’ 100m, clocking an impressive 10.34 seconds, well below the 10.55 qualifying mark.
In the Girls’ Under-17 100m, Harris edged out Jeffrey in a thrilling finish, with both athletes breaking the 12.10-second qualifying standard.

Following the qualifying window, junior competitions will ignite the track from March 14–15, before an intensive training camp from March 20–29 to ensure the athletes are fully prepared for the CARIFTA Games, scheduled for April in Grenada.
