Subhan, others honoured for preserving Indian culture

Several Guyanese were honoured on Friday evening for their contributions to the preservation of Indian culture during celebrations marking Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and World Hindi Day at the Swami Cultural Centre.
The event, hosted by the High Commission of India, featured traditional songs, poetry recitals and dance performances highlighting the richness of Indian heritage. Speakers underscored the importance of preserving Hindi as a living language and sustaining cultural traditions among future generations.
Those recognised were Neaz Mohamed Subhan, Chief Executive Officer of NCN; Hemraj Kissoon, Chairman of the Indian Commemoration Trust; Sasenarine Sankar, President of the Trust; Rajkumarie Singh, Principal of Hindu College; Pandit Suresh Singh of the Better Hope Mandir; dancer Roshini Khushi Boodhoo; and Dr Kumar Sukhraj, Vice President of the Guyana Central Arya Samaj.
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is observed annually on January 9 to recognise the contributions of the Indian diaspora to India’s development.
