Venezuela’s government on Saturday condemned what it described as a “very serious military aggression” by the United States after explosions were reported in the capital, Caracas, and other parts of the country.
In a statement, the government accused the United States of carrying out attacks in Caracas and in the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira.
President Nicolás Maduro has signed a state of emergency and ordered the implementation of all national defence plans “at the appropriate time and under the appropriate circumstances,” according to the statement.
The government also called on Venezuela’s social and political forces to mobilize in defence of the country.
“The people of Venezuela and their Bolivarian National Armed Forces, in perfect popular-military-police unity, are deployed to guarantee sovereignty and peace,” the statement said.
Venezuela said it would file complaints with the United Nations Security Council, the UN Secretary-General and other international bodies, seeking condemnation of the United States. (CNN)
