Police sergeant arrested for allegedly discharging loaded firearm

A police sergeant has been placed under close arrest as authorities investigate the alleged discharge of a loaded firearm in No. 78 Village, Corriverton, Berbice, police said.

The incident is alleged to have occurred on Friday, Dec. 26, 2025. Acting on information received, investigators contacted the sergeant on Saturday at about 1220 hrs, informed him of the allegation and escorted him into custody.

Police said relevant samples were taken as part of the probe. Investigations are continuing.
