Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) has commissioned its first 35MVA mobile substation at the New Georgetown Substation, a move aimed at boosting grid reliability as the utility upgrades its network.
GPL said the transportable unit can be rapidly deployed and connected within existing substation facilities, allowing it to be relocated to support operations as needed. The mobile system will provide temporary backup during maintenance, system upgrades or emergencies, reducing downtime and limiting service disruptions.
The investment is part of the government’s programme to modernise the electricity network. GPL said additional mobile substations will be acquired for Essequibo and Berbice.
