Santas spreading the festive spirit in Region Two

The holiday season officially opened in Region Two on Friday evening, when the Region Two Administration hosted its annual Christmas tree light-up and toy distribution at Citizen Park in Anna Regina.

A towering 20-foot Christmas tree set the scene for a night of celebration. The cultural programme featured scripture readings, poetry, music, and dance, with local performers taking the spotlight. Cheers erupted as Santa Claus made his entrance and distributed more than 3,000 toys to children gathered at the event.

Regional Chairperson Devin Mohan told attendees that Christmas represents hope, generosity, and new beginnings. He praised Guyana’s multicultural values, noting that people of many faiths unite to mark the season. Mohan encouraged residents to strengthen community ties and extended holiday greetings to Essequibians and the wider nation.

Pastor Mohamed Ally delivered an inspirational message on the joy and meaning of Christmas. He urged children to value the gifts they received and reminded the crowd of the Christian belief in Jesus’ birth as the fulfillment of prophecy and God’s love for humanity.

Programme managers of the Regional Administration offered greetings, while Regional Executive Officer Susannah Saywack thanked corporate partners for supporting the event and helping to make it a success.

Residents from across Region Two filled Citizen Park, taking photos, enjoying the lights, and sharing in festive cheer. Children’s excitement echoed throughout the evening as the Christmas season began with joy, unity, and community spirit in Anna Regina.
