Parents raising children with disabilities are set to receive new financial and social support as the government prepares a package of tax incentives and assistance aimed at easing the burden many families face.

The announcement came during a Region Six cabinet outreach in New Amsterdam, where President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali told residents that the upcoming measures are being crafted with families’ needs at the centre.

“We are working out a mechanism to give special tax incentives and special support for parents who have children living with disabilities, because we know sometimes at least one of our parents will have to stay home to take care of that child,” the president said.

He noted that the initiative is part of the administration’s wider effort to ensure that children and their caregivers are supported in meaningful ways. According to President Ali, the government intends to back the love and sacrifice shown by families with national-level assistance.

“You have a government that is matching your love at a national scale, because we love everyone … and we want the best for everyone,” he added, describing the measures as part of a broader expression of care and responsibility.

Alongside help for families with special-needs children, the government is also preparing new investments in secure childcare and elder-care services. These facilities are expected to benefit seniors, young professionals and working parents who rely on safe, structured care environments.

President Ali told the gathering that the government will soon roll out additional incentives to help operators upgrade these services—opening doors for those trained under the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security’s WIIN programme to expand or establish facilities.

A subsidised care system is also being developed, which will allow the state to shoulder part of childcare expenses so parents no longer have to bear the full cost.

The initiatives were among several priorities outlined during Thursday’s community engagement in Region Six. The outreach continues on Friday, November 21.
