
The highly-anticipated Grand Prix II Chess Tournament, a crucial qualifying event for the upcoming Chess Olympiad, is scheduled to commence on November 22nd, 23rd, 29th, and 30th, 2025, at the School of the Nations.
The tournament has secured sponsorship from ICEE Soft Drinks, which continues its support for the Grand Prix series of chess competitions.
The event, organized by the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF), is a highly coveted fixture expected to attract approximately 50 participants, including an anticipated 20 players competing in the Women’s category.
The competition will be contested over eight rounds using the Swiss System, featuring a time control of 90 minutes with 30-second increments added after each move.
The Open category is set to feature strong competition from players including National Junior Champion Kyle Couchman, U-16 Champion CM Sachin Pitamber, Gilbert Williams, Alek Ubaldo-Singh, Micaiah Enoe, and U-12 Champion Abel Fernandez.
Additionally, newcomer FIDE Master Rawle Allicock has also entered the tournament with the hopes of qualifying for the national team.
In the Women’s category, the field includes the current 2025 Women’s champion WCM Aditi Joshi, U-14 Girls Champion Emma John, U-12 Girls Champion Kateleya Sam, and Former Women’s champion WCM Sasha Shariff, alongside Treskole’ Archibald and Ciel Clement, among others.
Cash prizes totaling $100,000 will be awarded to the top three finishers in both the Open and Women’s categories.
To allow fans to follow the action, the top eight boards of the Open category and the top four boards for the Female category will be live-streamed on lichess.org by John Lee, FIDE Arbiter and Technical Director for the GCF. Full results and pairings will be made available on chess-results.com.
