Guyana’s promising start at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Caribbean Championship suffered a significant setback on November 13, as the Virgin Islands dominated the hosts 78-54 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The defeat ended Guyana’s unbeaten run after their opening victory against The Bahamas, exposing defensive vulnerabilities and offensive inconsistencies that troubled the home team throughout the matchup.
Despite another strong performance from Joy Adams, who battled relentlessly for 13 points and 15 rebounds, Guyana could not overcome the Virgin Islands’ suffocating defensive pressure and superior execution.
Guyana now faces a critical juncture in the single round-robin tournament, with two crucial matches remaining. The hosts must regroup against Suriname tomorrow before confronting regional powerhouse Jamaica on Sunday. A top-three finish is required to secure qualification for the 2026 Centrobasket Women.
