The Ministry of Education will commence the distribution of its annual education cash grant, the Because We Care grant, on 12th May 2025.
This announcement was made by Education Minister Priya Manickchand while addressing attendees at the commissioning of the Hopetown Practical Instruction Centre (PIC) on Tuesday.
The minister highlighted that each student will receive $50,000 along with a $5,000 school voucher, bringing the total support per child to $55,000 to assist with educational expenses.
Manickchand also assured that the ministry will ensure a streamlined distribution process, designed to minimise wait times and avoid any inconvenience for parents and guardians.
“You all know that over the last four years, it has been the smoothest process. You come once your child’s name is on the register, and the only problem is we have a little bit of a line,” she said.
A total of $11 billion has been allocated in the 2025 National Budget to fund this initiative, benefiting over 205,000 school-aged children nationwide.
The grant has steadily increased from $19,000 in 2021 to $45,000 in 2024, providing much-needed financial relief to hundreds of thousands of families across Guyana.
