Two brothers were on Wednesday charged with multiple offences after a viral video showed them assaulting two police officers.
According to a Police release, Antwan Embrack, 22, unemployed, and his brother Stephen Embrack, 20, a security guard—both of 65 Graham Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara—appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where the charges were read to them.
The men were jointly charged with:
Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm to Lebert Allicock, contrary to Section 30(a) of the Summary Jurisdiction (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:02.
Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm to Elton Graham, contrary to Section 30(a) of the Summary Jurisdiction (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:02.
Damage to Property (police regulation shirt worn by Elton Graham), contrary to Section 61 of the Summary Jurisdiction (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:02.
Damage to Property (police regulation shirt worn by Lebert Allicock), contrary to Section 61 of the Summary Jurisdiction (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:02.
Both men pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of $60,000 each. The case was adjourned to April 16, 2025, for trial.
Additionally, Stephen Embrack was separately charged with Malicious Damage to Property, contrary to Section 160 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.
The charge relates to damage inflicted on property belonging to the Guyana Police Force on March 10, 2025, at Camp Street, Georgetown.
He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $50,000. This matter was also adjourned to April 16, 2025.
The incident, which was captured on video, has sparked discussions about attacks on law enforcement officers and the consequences for offenders.
