Public Works Minister, Bishop Juan Edghill, is expected to push discussions on the electrification of public transport at the Transforming Transportation 2025 conference in Washington, DC, hosted by the World Bank. The two-day conference is being held under the theme “Driving Change, Delivering Solutions.”
The minister, who is currently attending the opening of the conference, will take part in discussions on the electrification of public transport in Latin America and the Caribbean, among other critical areas. An update on his participation was posted to his Facebook page, highlighting that “one of the fastest-growing economies, Guyana remains committed to sustainable and climate-resilient transportation development.”
Minister Edghill’s participation underscores Guyana’s leadership in infrastructure modernisation and regional connectivity. He has already participated in the Ministerial Roundtable on Sustainable Transport, engaging with global leaders on advancing sustainable mobility.
During the two-day conference, the minister will also speak on Guyana’s transport infrastructure, climate resilience strategies, and the sustainable expansion of its road network.
Founded in 2003 and co-hosted by the World Bank and WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities, the Transforming Transportation annual conference is the largest of its kind, dedicated to fostering transport solutions in developing countries that address both sustainability and development goals.
The global forum targets innovators and leaders helping to transform the sector and creates a platform for discussions among policymakers, CEOs, researchers, and advocates. The 2025 conference will address the skills, policies, and resources needed to transition from planning to implementing clean, safe, equitable, resilient, and inclusive transportation systems that reduce emissions, enhance resilience to climate impacts, and deliver for people and economies.
